Don't be afraid to dream because hopes are dreams best friend

About Cherished Whispers

In April 2011, we attended a charity event which included a balloon release. Each balloon had a tag with the name of a lost baby/child tied to it. We even had balloons to represent our own losses. This had quite an emotional effect on everyone present and particularly to us.

Deciding that we would provide Memory Boxes to Medway Maritime Hospital was the first of many decisions to be made, finding suppliers of materials and quickly learning how to run a charity! Not least, a way to fund it all. Were we in for a shock! Cheryl applied for a credit card and promptly spent in excess of £1,500.00. The spending continued and we used up all of our spare time trying to get things going. We played with many names, but none seemed right, then, suddenly one of us said “Cherished” and the other said “Whispers”. From here on it just all ‘fell’ into place! We registered with Companies House and we have continued building.

In the meantime, a Charity Ball was being organized by the Royal College of Midwives for October. The Ball was called Diamonds & Tiaras. We were invited, as the idea was to not only provide much needed funds for the college, but they also wanted to donate some of the proceeds to what was now known as Cherished Whispers.

We managed to recruit some lovely people along the way as Trustees and support for us has been incredible. We even have an accountant who has offered his services free of charge!

We created a few Cherished Whispers pages on Facebook! A Secret page called The Whisper Page. The Whisper Page is something we are extremely proud of simply because it has become a huge support for the parents who have suffered a loss. Of course, we also have a place on Twitter too!

'Grandparent's Whispers'

This is a seret page on Facebook just for our Grandparents, like the Whisper Page this is a place for posting and talking with like minded people and above all making friends.

Our Boxes....

We provide our memory boxes to Medway Maritime Hospital.

The white box, which is for a baby of unknown gender (usually under 18 weeks gestation) and

The pink or blue box (if the gender is known) for 18 weeks and over.

Whilst delivering our first batch of boxes we were asked if there was something we could provide for families who suffer a miscarriage during the earlier stages of pregnancy, so we decided to produce a card together with a 'Hope' charm for those who have suffered such a loss (approximately 12 weeks gestation and under) as a box at this stage would be innapropriate.

The Cherished Whispers Logo

The logo went through several changes at the beginning. A teddy was our first

thought, however, we realised other

organisations use a teddy. Then, inspired by the balloon release event, we thought maybe balloons would be good to have. Then we realised that having balloons meant we would need to have a string attached , but this became 'messy'. So we dropped the balloon idea and went for hearts. This could signify different things to different people, for example: Blue = Dad, Pink = Mum and White = Baby. Or Blue = boy, Pink = Girl and White = Unknown gender. Whatever they represent to an idividual, they certainly represent the one thing that is affected by such a tragedy, our hearts.

Of course, the three hearts stuck and they are what you will see as our logo now.
